Large cone drivers often experience problems with the cone material changing shape while being driven. There is always a compromise between a rigidity and lightness of the cone. SB Acoustics has solved this problem by using a rigid honeycomb structure made from paper and then covered it with a thin membrane of fiberglass. The result is a very rigid and light cone with minimized cone distortion.
The voice coil is ventilated below the spider and through the pole piece. This increases power handling and reduces mechanical noise. The cast frame has been engineered for minimum reflections and maximum air flow.
