Retrofits
Madisound receives many requests for replacement drivers for older systems, where manufacturer replacements are no longer available.
Before Calling Madisound About Replacing a Woofer
If your speaker is not in Suggested Replacements, we need the following information in order to help you find a replacement woofer. We will do our best to find a match for your speaker with this information.
Take a clear photo of the face of the driver and the rear. Email these to info@madisound.com along with this information:
- What is the diameter of the woofer, from outside edge to edge?
- What is the cutout hole size for the woofer?
- What is the speaker box dimensions, length x width x depth?
- If the speaker box has a vent (tube where air can come in and out)? What is the diameter and length of the vent?
- Does the woofer have a foam surround or rubber surround?
- Is the cone material paper, polypropylene or something else?
- Is the frame a cast metal or a stamped sheet metal?
- What is the impedance? (usually 4 or 8 ohms. If the impedance is not marked it can usually be inferred from the DC resistance of the unit. If you need assistance with measuring this contact us.)

Advent Legacy
One of our customers has used the Seas H283* as a replacement for the 10" woofer in the Legacy. You have to use new screw holes, but the cutout is the correct size. He says the midrange was more pronounced than before, but the overall sound quality was an improvement. Perhaps increasing the value of the series inductor in front of the woofer would decrease the midrange output. If there is a capacitor in parallel with the woofer, you could also try increasing the value to decrease midrange output.
Allison CD-9
The SEAS H1189 tweeter is a good replacement though you will have to notch the Allison cutouts slightly to fit the wiring terminals.

Dynaco A25 Tweeter & woofer Replacement
The tweeter for this speaker is no longer in production and Seas recommends using their new Sonotex fabric dome, the 27TFFC (H881). A newer version of the woofer is being made by Seas and the part number is 25F-EW (H085).
Dynaco A25 Tweeter Replacement
A customer has replace his tweeter with the Morel MDT20, which is an exact drop in replacement including the screw holes. "The sound is wonderful and has given these old speakers a new life."
Infinity Kappa 8.1
The Vifa D75MX41 is a perfect replacement.
Infinity Monitor IIA:
One of our customers has recommended the Swan305* woofer as a drop in replacement. He shortened the port from 6" to 4" and says "The bass response may be better than the original." Another customer has confirmed this to be a nearly identical replacement.
Kef:
Kef has repair parts for some of their older products. You have to give them the “SP” reference number when inquiring from them; you can’t just use T27A or T33A. Please contact Kieran Billmann at KEF America; Tel: 732-683-2356 or kbillmann@kefamerica.com.
Kef 107 Replacement Woofers
WAM Engineering experimented with the Seas CA26RFX (H1305) as a replacement for the 10” woofers in the Kef 107 speaker. They said these woofers worked great and would recommend them as a good replacement. Download PDF for measured curves.
Kef T33A Replacement
A good replacement for an 8 ohm Kef T33A is the Morel MDT30S tweeter. The T33A is a 95mm square tweeter and the MDT30S is a 94mm round tweeter. The cut out hole is the same diameter. The MDT30S won’t cover the same physical area as the square T33A tweeter, but it will still fit within the area of a recessed (flush mounted) T33A tweeter. The tweeter will work with the existing crossover and is an acceptable replacement.
Spica TC50
The Audax tweeters used in this speaker are available again! The new tweeter is the Audax TW025A2, replacing the old part number of HD100D25.
The woofer is the Hif17JVX 4 ohm and we don't know of any similar speaker to replace this driver. Tri State Loudspeaker in Aliquippa, PA will rebuild the voice coil on your old woofer for about $45.00.(as of 2/05) www.nauticom.net/www/speakers
Spica TC60
The Vifa D27TG35 is a drop-in replacement tweeter.
Vifa Tweeters
With many very popular Vifa tweeters being discontinued, or difficult for us to acquire, here is your best bet for replacements:
Vifa D25AGXX-06 --> SEAS H1212
Vifa D26TGXX-06 & D27TGXX-06 --> SEAS H1189 or SEAS H1211
These Seas tweeters are a very close match to the Vifa tweeters technical specifications. In our opinion, they are also better overall performers and would be considered an upgrade. The flange size (just a bit over 4”) is the same, and the screw holes are nearly identical.
The only important physical difference is the orientation of the terminals. Depending on the existing cutout hole in your cabinet, you may have to carve out a little notch to accommodate the terminal tab of the Seas units. This is a relatively simple procedure.
